Far from being a “real-time” discovery: a new supernova candidate has just been announced via the Transient Name Server: AT 1989al
As the name indicates, is was recorded in March 1989 but only detected now in a reanalysis of the DSS plates (cf. Digitized Sky Survey - Wikipedia).

Very interesting and good news.
I’m checking the coordinates in some surveys and i found a brownish point in DSS color image.
This point isn’t visible in other images, like ZFT which is mos recent. I will post the two combined images below. It could be a simple coincidence, like an artifact or something else. Or could this point be the newly reported supernova?
