I am new here and have just created a user account. However the user ID for my account remains “null” and I cannot change any settings on the Account Details popup in the Web Interface.
Would like to use the API and might need a user ID …

Something went clearly wrong during the account setup. We are still trying to figure out the details. In the meantime we have re-initialized the account and you should now be able to find your UID in the account details. Can you have a look and let us know if this works as expected?

Yes, at least I have a user id now.
I also managed to add a username and an institute, although this interface (Webversion) does not work properly. I had to try several times, click the save settings button several times, had to add both, username AND institute, which was not clear immediately: When I added only a username, nothing happened and nothing indicated that institute was required. When I tried again and tried to save without username AND without institute, it showed me that both are required.
I am fine for now!

Good to hear that you have now a working account!
It looks like the Edge browser is causing most of the initial issues. We are looking into ways to deal with that.
Thanks also for the additional feedback concerning the update of the user data. The two fields should indeed not be linked and we’ll fix that with the next release.
Just a note: I replied directly by mail and I was not aware that the mail would end up here … with my full signature including address and phone number. Not ideal … I removed it manually from this message here …
