Introducing Astro-COLIBRI Version 2.12.0

We are excited to announce a new update (v2.12.2) that is now live across our platform! This release brings several new features and improvements that are directly inspired by your feedback and the dynamic needs of the astronomical community. Here’s what’s new in the latest version:

  1. Alerts Stream for Special Targets: Don’t miss out on observing rare astronomical events! We’ve added a new alert stream for special targets, such as the anticipated 2024 explosion of T CrB and other significant occurrences. Keep those suggestions coming—they help shape our updates!

  2. SNEWS Supernova Neutrino Alerts: We have integrated alerts from the SuperNova Early Warning System (SNEWS) into the platform. SNEWS is an international initiative using a network of neutrino detectors, including Super-K, IceCube and KamLAND, to provide an early alert of a core-collapse supernova in the Milky Way. This system allows astronomers to prepare observations and capture vital data from the outset of the explosion, enhancing understanding and detection efficiency. These (extremely rare) alerts will be sent to the supernova, neutrino, Astro-COLIBRI announcements, and the new “special targets” stream.

  3. User-Configurable Coordinate Precision: Tailor the precision of displayed coordinates right from your user settings to suit your observational needs and preferences.

Bug Fixes:

  • Resolved issues parsing the SuperKamiokande supernova neutrino alerts.
  • Fixed a bug where the observer location was not correctly read from user settings.
  • Addressed crashes at startup of the interfaces to ensure smoother operation.

We hope these updates enhance your experience and enable you to contribute even more effectively to our shared passion for time domain astronomy. As always: let us know your thoughts and feedback!

Clear skies and happy observing!
