I photographed my first Supernova with my RC6 and my Atik414ex CCD camera. A few 200-second exposures in bin2.
Hello Gabriel ! Nice challenge. I suppose you made 1 picture of 200s. May I suggest to make much more pictures for stacking. This increases the SNR ratio wich is looking quite poor here. It is also not a good think to work in Bin2x2. My experience is that this decreases the SNR aroud low magnitude objects. But keep trying, all starts are difficult.
I just had a look on the data of SN 2026ns. The magnitude is 19.2. This is the upper-upper possible limit with our 17inch telescope after 1 hour exposure. A RC6 is a very nice telescope but I am affraid that it could not be possible to see this star on your picture after only 200s. As I said, you must try to stack a lot of pictures. 60s of each could be a good try for start. Good luck !
Thanks for your feedback. Binning 2 increases the signal-to-noise ratio because it combines four pixels into one, and the problem is that the resolution decreases. I think it’s definitely not recommended for this purpose. I didn’t really have time to do more exposures; it was a quick process. But I also tried binning 1 and got better results because I had more exposures. These are three 300-second exposures, and I also processed the image.
