Already announced a few days ago (cf. RAPAS observation list starting 2026-07-03 - #3 by Fabian.Schussler), SN 2026, a supernova in NGC 3310 at only 10.66 Mpc, continues to become brighter. It is now approaching ~12mag!
Photometric but especially spectroscopic follow-up is highly encouraged to pin down the characteristics of the supernova! Feel free to share your results right here…

Hi, that’s very cool, thank you for collecting these spectra! I was also trying to get some data with big facilities, but at the moment everyone is trying to follow-up this thing. Very strong interaction indeed, that’s perfect for multi-wavelength observations
An observation made yesterday, somewhat unusual because it was obtained at a spectral resolution of R = 16,000, corresponding to a resolution element of 0.04 nm at 656 nm,
The goal was to resolve the Hα line, which has indeed been achieved. The line is relatively narrow and slightly asymmetric (the change in slope near the peak is real). I measure a FWHM velocity of 97 km/s (+/- 10km/s). I believe this is an interesting result. Note : The Halpha line is resoved by the instrument (instrumlental FWHM is near 19 km/s).
The measured velocity is probably that of the circumstellar material associated with the event. Also attached, out of curiosity, is the 2D image of the spectrum around Hα, which shows the nearby Hα emission from the host galaxy (a slight Doppler shift can be discerned).
