# Updated schedule of the gravitational wave detectors

The currently ongoing observation run (called O4b) of the gravitational wave observatories LIGO and VIRGO was meant to continue until June 9, 2025. This schedule has just been updated: an additional break for repairs will take place from 1 April 2025 to 4 June 2025. Observations will then resume and the O4b data taking period has been extended to until 7 October 2025.  
After some major upgrades, observations will then restart with the run O5 in 2027.

Fingers crossed to detect another binary neutron star merger until October! 🤞
